Posted: 14 Mar 2008 I know the problem now. I copied the URL of the properties from the pics that I had previously posted up on another forum that I am a member of. That forum happens to have been down all afternoon and evening. I imagine that when it is back on line, the pictures will reappear as if by magic.
EDIT* Picture back now (16.03.08) |

Posted: 21 Mar 2008 There have been no records for many years from the New Forest other than the few known reintroduction sites. It is still not understood why they disappeared on places such as the Burley Railway embankment, some areas it is obviously management by fire and overgrazing. Ringwood Forest which is north of Ringwood has many populations, as has the Avon Valley. I would be interested in what area near Ringwood and if it is in the New Forest (proper) or in the other areas I mentioned. Posted: 22 Mar 2008 HI DAVE I CAUGHT A YOUNG MALE AROUND 9CMS IN A CLEARING ON THE RINGWOOD VERWOOD Rd AROUND A MILE or 2 ON THE FIRST LEFT TURN ON THE V OF THE B3081 VERWOOD Rd 8 years ago AND SEE A FEMALE ADULT. It was a one off stop for a break in this small bit of heather clearing and had quick look like you do being a life long herp. couldnt give any map grid ref as I did not think about it at the time . but I am sure I could find it again unless it swamped out with trees etc somewhere within marking on map or a bit up by the 156 clearing on lat 08/09 long12/13 long os 1960 sheet 179 seventh series cant give detailed divisional section of the grid as thats as far as my memory goes so it might be worth recording, but I did assume this was in the new forest not Ringwood forest,I hope to have a look again this spring if weather gets better next month armed wih the camera.. Posted: 22 Mar 2008 Keith, that whole area is the Ringwood Forest and well outside the New Forest and the management that is controlled by the commoners and the verderers. This area is under a seperate Forsetry design plan that both BHS and HCT have an input into. There are large areas that have been turned over to conservation throughout the forest many with the rare reptiles in mind. There is still quarrying in the area on the opposite side of the road from your area marked and tranlocations and mitigation/release areas set aside for all the reptiles moved. The boundary bank along the road where you have marked has fairly recently been cleared of large trees and been brought into the sun along most of the road which should benefit the Sand Lizards. Posted: 22 Mar 2008 I think a record of a single female at Picket Post was the most recent NF record, but nothing has been seen there since as far as I know. 'I get my kicks on Route 62' |

Posted: 13 May 2009 hi james nice to see you back on the forum. if you do a bit of a magic eye thing on your picture - where you stare sort of obliquely at it, the lizard really melts into the background demonstrating how effective the camouflage is. it's a really nice pic. cheers tim |

Posted: 13 May 2009 Thanks Keith,This beautiful lass was in the Bordon area. Thanks Tim, its good to be back! That image is quite a heavy crop of the original. Its camouflage was so effective it took me about 30 seconds to spot it even when it was pointed out to me and I was less than 3 metres away from her, I'l post the original soon, as I think I saw a discussion going on about camouflage.
